Safran Aero Boosters and BMT Aerospace signed up to additively manufacture components for Pratt & Whitney's F135 engine for the F-35 Lightning II aircraft
Wednesday, 22 July 2026

Safran Aero Boosters has signed an agreement with Pratt & Whitney to qualify and deliver F135 engine components. The signing ceremony, held in the presence of Theo Francken, Belgian Minister of Defence and Adrien Dolimont, Minister-President of Wallonia, marks an important milestone. As part of this agreement, Safran Aero Boosters, and its partner BMT Aerospace, will advance additive manufacturing technologies supporting Pratt & Whitney's F135 engine programme.

Safran Aero Boosters, based in Wallonia, and BMT Aerospace, based in Flanders, have demonstrated strong capabilities in the additive manufacturing of components for aerospace applications. This joint development project represents a significant step toward validating this technology and positioning Belgium as a source of high-technology supply chain solutions for U.S. aerospace companies.

This U.S.–Belgium joint development agreement aligns with, and is supported by, the Belgian government's commitment to fostering economic growth and job creation within the defence sector. It also provides additional economic benefits within the broader framework of the F-35 programme.

"I would like to thank Pratt & Whitney and the Belgian Ministry of Defence for making this collaboration possible. This milestone validates the expertise developed by Safran Aero Boosters and BTM Aerospace in advanced manufacturing technologies. It is an important achievement, and also a starting point. We look forward to deepening our contribution to the F-35 program and to developing new collaborations that will support its future success."
