Esterline CMC Electronics' PilotView® Class 2 Electronic Flight Bag offers Iridium weather capability
Monday, 18 October 2010

Esterline CMC Electronics' (CMC) PilotView® Class 2 Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) have a new capability - real time weather using Iridium. Customers operating in Europe or abroad now have the option of en-route weather displayed on CMC's PilotView 8.4 inch CMA-1100 MkII and 10.4 inch CMA-1410 EFBs.

CMC is offering the system with the Avidyne MLX770 for access to real-time graphical weather, text and datalink radar. The Weather Services International (WSI) products will be accessed from the Avidyne network, which can provide seamless operation for graphical weather and radar in Europe and Australia, as well as in North America. The WSI weather also provides worldwide winds and temps aloft, lightning, METARS/TAFS and satellite infra-red. The hardware adds approximately 4 lbs to a CMC EFB installation and provides a wealth of all-weather capabilities, as well as a text messaging and flight tracking ability.

CMC's PilotView EFB improves productivity by enabling pre-flight planning and efficient access to up-to-date aircraft documentation, checklists and flight planning information. PilotView increases situational awareness in-flight with approach charts, en-route moving map display and graphical real-time weather information. The PilotView EFB system is compact and lightweight, with a display/ processor unit and aircraft interface unit that are easy to install in a variety of cockpits where space is at a premium.

Over 25 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the Gulfstream GIV and GV to the Bombardier Global Express/5000/XRS. PilotView is currently the only Class 2 EFB with factory forward-fit installation positions at aircraft OEMs. It is offered as a standard option at Dassault and ATR, and has been selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global platform, by Embraer for the E-170/190 and Legacy/Lineage programs, by Bombardier for the CRJ700/900/1000 and by Boeing for the Next-Generation B737 and BBJ aircraft.
