Officials from the FAA; gave Universal Avionics the official nod with TSO Approval for its "W" series WAAS-FMS at the 60th Annual NBAA Convention in Atlanta, GA today. Universal's new generation WAAS/ SBAS enabled Flight Management Systems, (UNS-1Lw, UNS-1Ew, UNS-1Espw, and UNS-1Fw), are now available for Business, Commercial, and Regional aircraft around the world. Universal's WAAS-FMS makes the concept of flying accurate lateral precision with vertical guidance at all supported airports a reality. This highly accurate SBAS (Space Based Augmentation System) system improves accuracy, availability and integrity of GPS-derived position, increasing navigation capabilities for all classes of aircraft in all phases of flight.
In addition to having the capability for Non-Precision and LNAV/VNAV approaches, this new WAAS-FMS makes it possible to obtain operational approvals for all of the (so far) 707 FAA published SBAS WAAS/LPV approaches, as well as being ready for those yet to come. The published WAAS/LPV approach criterion defines minima as low as 200 feet with ½-mile visibility.
"Universal Avionics' new line of WAAS FMS systems meet FAA TSO 146b and DO229D offering the very first WAAS FMS with an embedded 3D solution for aircraft ranging from PC-12s to Boeing 747s without the need for add-on sensors, making them ideal for application in both the forward fit and retrofit markets," said Paul DeHerrera, Vice President of Marketing and Product Support for Universal Avionics.
Universal Avionics manufactures/markets the UNS-1 WAAS Flight Management Systems; the EFI-890R Flat Panel Display; a line of Flat Panel Integrated Cockpit Displays; Vision-1™ Synthetic Vision System; TAWS Terrain Awareness and Warning System; the ASU chart, E-DOCS, checklist display system; Cockpit Voice Recorder; Radio Control Unit; and a host of other advanced avionics equipment.
