Holt Integrated Circuit's 3.3V dual-receive, single-transmit ARINC 429 Protocol IC, HI-3593, demonstrates compliance with EMI/EMC requirements of RTCA/DO-160G
Thursday, 23 June 2011

Holt Integrated Circuits, a world leader in data bus IC's for the avionics and military industries, today added HI-3593 to its list of components complying with the EMI/EMC requirements of RTCA/DO-160G, Section 21, Category P. This specification provides a standardized test methodology which is accepted in the avionics industry as the gold standard for environmental testing of airborne equipment. Compliance to Section 21, Category P ensures HI-3593 can operate successfully in applications mandating strict EMI/EMC requirements, such as cockpit instrumentation and flight controls. All testing was performed by an accredited external lab and a copy of the final test report is available in Application Note AN-137.

Holt also demonstrated the part's robustness to transients and lightning strikes by meeting the requirements of DO-160G, Level 3, waveforms 3, 4, 5A and 5B.

The HI-3593 is a 3.3V ARINC 429 dual-receive, single-transmit protocol IC. The device operates from a single 3.3V supply and includes an on-chip DC/DC converter to generate the bipolar ARINC 429 differential voltage levels needed to directly drive the ARINC 429 bus, using only four external capacitors. The two receivers each have user-programmable label recognition for any combination of 256 possible labels, 32 x 32 Receive FIFO, priority label filtering (using three dedicated priority-label quick-access double-buffered registers) and analog line receiver. The independent transmitter has a 32 x 32 Transmit FIFO and built-in line driver.

"The HI-3593 provides a compact single-chip 3.3V ARINC 429 solution and this independent testing has demonstrated its capability of performing in applications requiring the most stringent EMI/EMC requirements," said Anthony Murray, Director of Business Development at Holt.

The HI-3593 is available in a compact 44-pin SOIC package and a smaller footprint 44-pin QFN, with a choice of industrial (-40oC to +85oC) or extended (-55oC to +125oC) temperature ranges. Samples and a demonstration kit are available upon request.
