PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: Third Dimension
Non-contact metrology pioneers Third Dimension have announced the launch of a new generation GapGun, the MX+, which boasts all the features of their established GapGun 3 with significantly improved performance and a range of features designed to make it even easier to implement.
Third Dimension describes the MX+ as an enterprise level, fully featured measurement system offering the full suite of facilities of all other GapGuns. The most significant enhancement is that it provides completely independent operation, with no link to a PC or controller. MX+ also allows real-time data logging with Third Dimension's own software, graphical checkplans, advanced reporting and flexible measurement options.
Users can download or transmit the data using a USB stick, wireless, radio link or Ethernet, and results can be stored in multiple formats.
Performance is greatly enhanced due to new measurement heads, which can be used on far more challenging surfaces than the existing technology due to revised operating principles. "Fundamentally the MX+ features auto adjustment of both the camera and the laser, which enables measurement of many more challenging surfaces," explains Third Dimension Head of Sales John Kane. The MX+ is also faster in operation by approximately 20 per cent due to optimised processing algorithms.
The MX+ is supplied with a portable battery pack, which is worn by the user. This provides up to 12 hours of continual user time and, in addition, the handheld unit itself has a separate internal battery offering an additional 90 minutes of use for entirely autonomous operation. MX+ can also be supplied with a tablet to provide a fully integrated solution.
Each system can be specified with one of a choice of four measurement heads, which cover a range of resolutions for different measuring applications. Heads are interchangeable and can be upgraded on demand. MX+ also features a rubberised head housing to improve on the previous generation's already enviable shop floor robustness.
"We are very excited to announce the launch of GapGun MX+, which is a premium product, with the unique feature of offering completely autonomous use," says John Kane. "The fact that MX+ uniquely enables the user to store or transmit the data provides far greater flexibility in use than the previous generation systems and is a major step forward in non-contact metrology."
MX+ is available immediately from Third Dimension's distributor network and a number of existing customers have already commenced upgrading their existing GapGun 3 systems.
