Honeywell deploys newest fuel efficient jet engine on Embraer aircraft
Wednesday, 12 October 2011

Honeywell (NYSE:HON) has delivered the latest version of its industry leading HTF7000 family of engines, the HTF7500E, to Embraer for flight testing on Embraer's family of Legacy 450 and 500 series jets.

Honeywell is also incorporating its green combustor technology, called Singular Annular Combustor for Emissions Reduction (SABER), into its HTF7000 family, helping both OEMs and operators reduce carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and other unburned hydrocarbon emissions while lowering operating costs.

"The HTF7000 engine is delivering the highest reliability of any engine in its thrust class, and we continue to invest in improvements like SABER to give our customers an engine that meets their operational needs," said Ron Rich, vice president of Propulsion at Honeywell Aerospace. "Our engines help customers burn less fuel, lower emissions, decrease noise and provide overall better cost of ownership."

The volatile cost of oil is putting tremendous pressure on OEMs and operators to reduce operating costs and increase fuel efficiency. Compounding this is an aging air traffic system that has had a significant impact on energy use and the environment, resulting in an increased average fuel economy over the past 30 years.

Designed to address environmental issues and help operators gain overall business efficiencies, Honeywell's SABER combustor has begun shipping with OEM engines. SABER provides emission savings of up to 25 percent lower than current requirements, improves durability, and is retrofittable during scheduled maintenance intervals to fielded engines.

"The HTF7500E's fuel efficiency, world-class reliability and innovative emissions-reducing capabilities will provide the latest technology standards of propulsion for our Legacy 450 and Legacy 500 jets" said Mauricio Almeida, Embraer Vice President Program Management.
