UTC Aerospace Systems partners with Embraer to showcase electric brake technology
Monday, 17 June 2013

UTC Aerospace Systems recently partnered with Embraer S.A. to successfully demonstrate the next generation of electric braking system technology. The demonstration was performed under Embraer's "More Electric Aircraft" (MEA) study assessing the benefits of the newest generation of electric braking technology that incorporates significant reductions in system weight and envelope. UTC Aerospace Systems is a unit of United Technologies Corp..

The test equipment included electrically actuated brakes and electro-mechanical actuator controllers. Technology experts from both companies collaborated over eighteen months to prepare for the extensive series of on-aircraft tests conducted on an Embraer 145 LR regional jet.

"This was a great opportunity for us to validate our next generation electric braking technology while enhancing the long term partnership we enjoy with Embraer," said Jim Wharton, president, Wheels & Brakes. "As a market leader in electric brake technology, we remain focused on continued innovation that will provide our customers increased reliability and lower total cost of ownership."

"The UTC Aerospace Systems next generation electric brake demonstration was a success. The product performed as advertised with favorable comments from the test pilots and the overall program gives us confidence in the technology," said Emilio Matsuo, Chief Engineer, Embraer S.A.
