CMC Electronics awarded follow-on contract for TacView™ portable mission display by U.S.A.F. Special Operations Command
Tuesday, 21 October 2008

CMC Electronics has been awarded a follow-on contract by the United States Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) to supply its portable mission display known as TacView™ for its AC-130 gunship aircraft. AFSOC intends to employ three TacView systems per cockpit installation to facilitate paperless cockpit operations, including aircraft data and procedure manuals, interactive electronic charts and improved situational awareness, using the U.S. Air Force FalconView™ mission planning system.

Jean-Michel Comtois, vice-president military aviation, CMC Electronics, stated: "Our compact TacView is specifically designed to facilitate military and paramilitary airborne mission effectiveness through improved real-time situational awareness. The follow-on contract by AFSOC is excellent news and a solid endorsement of the TacView's capability to meet stringent military requirements."

TacView consists of a rugged, compact, self-contained, night vision imaging system compatible smart display and companion power supply/interface module. TacView provides functionality enhancements for military transports, fighters and helicopters, without impacting or having to modify the aircraft's existing operational flight program.

Some of the functions that can be hosted by TacView include tactical data link display for network-centric communications, portable mission planning, digital moving map, real-time weather imagery, electronic aeronautical charts and sensor imaging. The TacView also provides a path to paperless cockpit operations on board military aircraft.

TacView is large enough to display full-size instrument approach charts, checklists and moving maps, but small enough to mount in virtually any cockpit. Cockpit side mount, yoke mount and knee mount options provide the level of flexibility required for a wide range of aircraft. Its super bright, sunlight-readable 5"X7" display features an integrated sliding keyboard, film-on-glass touch sensitive screen and bezel keys that provide an exceptional level of operator interface flexibility.

Lockheed Martin Aeronautics recently selected the portable TacView display to meet current and future C-130J Mobile Display System (MDS) requirements. TacView will facilitate secure tactical data link communications and paperless cockpit operations enabling unprecedented situational awareness for the crew.

The design of the TacView Portable Mission Display is based on CMC's industry leading PilotView® blectronic flight bag (EFB). Over 23 STCs are available for the PilotView EFB on aircraft ranging from the Gulfstream GV and GIV and Bombardier Global Express/XRS to the Boeing 737. PilotView is the sole OEM Class 2 EFB option at Dassault, Gulfstream, Pilatus and Swearingen. PilotView has been selected by Rockwell Collins for the Bombardier Global platform, by Embraer for the E-170/190 program, and by ATR for the ATR-42 and ATR-72 aircraft.
