Precision Technologies joins the Midlands Aerospace Alliance (MAA)
Friday, 17 March 2017

With over 25 years' experience supplying the world's most demanding markets; Precision Technologies is now expanding itsexisting presence in the Aerospace sector by becoming the latest member of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance.

Patrick Walker,Technical Director, said, “Precision Technologies has a number of Aerospace clients and I'm keen that we grow further in this sector so I wanted us to join a trade organisation that can give us the best introductions and awareness in the sector, and MAA ticks all of those boxes”.

Driven by its experience in the manufacture of highly accurate components used in the motorsport industry, the company continues to work with 2nd tier suppliers to the aerospace industry to manufacture finish cut gears and splines and ground gears and splines, capable of meeting the most demanding quality requirements. The highly skilled and flexible workforce ensures that fast track manufacturing services are available to all of our aerospace customers and, when appropriate, they can pre-book production capacity in future months using our new, fully integrated MRP capacity planning software.

Our in-house UKAS accredited laboratories have capabilities of measuring components dimensional tolerances of +- 1.0 Micron. In-process metrology is also used to ensure that every gear and spline is manufactured accurately and the correct allowance is made for the “growing” of components during hardening processes.

The commitment to future proofing the business can be seen in the training strategy we have implemented where every employee is being cross-skilled to ensure maximum flexibility throughout the company. In addition, a new craft apprenticeship initiative allows young people to train up to degree level in Mechanical Engineering whilst learning practical aspects of manufacturing.

Precision Technologies is ideally suited to small batch runs, prototypes and pre-production component proving. It also has the capability of working with Aerospace engineers to review components against their ability to be manufactured using the most cost effective production routing.

Kevin Parkin, Managing director, continued “having been running the business for just over a year I am amazed that this jewel of British engineering has been under- represented in the Aerospace and Defence sectors hitherto, so I see great growth potential utilising our highly skilled team”.
