Russian Helicopters Holding (a part of the state owned corporation Rostec) will display the perspective upgraded military transport Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter, intended for special purpose operations in the war on terror.
Mi-171Sh-VN represents the latest modification of military transport helicopters of the Mi-8/17 family. The upgraded helicopter is ready for delivery to eventual buyers, its production is deployed on Ulan-Ude Aviation plant.
“The technical shape of Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter has been created taking into account experience of combat use of helicopters, including in the Syrian Arab Republic. The helicopter embodies the whole suite of structural peculiarities enhancing combat efficiency and survivability of the helicopter,” noted the general director of “Russian Helicopters” Andrey Boginskiy.
Mi-171Sh-VN is the conventional symbol of the helicopter. It is planned that the helicopter will be exported under well-known code "Mi-171Sh".
Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter is equipped with powerful engines with improved altitude and climatic performances and a new rotor system. The helicopter has main rotor composite blades of a new profile and the X-shaped tail rotor. In comparison with the previous versions the helicopter thanks to these innovations has increased cruising and maximum helicopter flying speed up to 260 and 280 km/h respectively as well as maximum take-off weight up to 13,500 kg. In addition, the thrust-and-weight ratio and operational efficiency in conditions of high mountains and hot climate are increased.
Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter is equipped with a new configuration of flight and navigation equipment. At the same time the principle of a combination of "a glass cockpit" and reliable analog devices is applied to increase combat survivability. The helicopter is equipped with a digital autopilot.
Helicopter use efficiency in night conditions is increased. The helicopter is equipped with FLIR system, a searchlight with an infrared radiator, the dual-band lighting equipment, adapted for night vision goggles use.
Combat survivability of the helicopter is increased as well. It is equipped with "Prezident-S" defense suite which in the automatic mode distinguishes missiles launched on the helicopter, performs jamming to targeting heads and emission of heat flares.
For staff protection the floor of the cockpit and cargo cabin is completely covered by the removable lightweight kevlar armor. Also kevlar armor is mounted along the left and right board to the windows level. It is provided installation of the energy-attenuating seats to increase staff survival in case of helicopter "hard landing".
A new weapon structure is applied on Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter. The main feature is that along with shooting and gun armament, unguided missiles, bombs of various caliber Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter is equipped with a complex of the guided missile armament with target sight system.
Two machine guns of caliber of 12,7 mm are installed in apertures of the left and right door. Two course machine guns of similar caliber are installed on trusses of a special external load.
Mi-171Sh-VN helicopter is positioned as multipurpose and can carry out a wide range of tasks - from troop-carrying to fire support of special operation forces actions.
