Flagstaff inventor unveils new flying machine for first time at Future of Flight Air Show
Saturday, 30 March 2019

Longtime Flagstaff resident, MIT grad, pilot, skydiver, mechanical engineer, and business owner Jim Corning has reimagined personal flying crafts by inventing what he is calling the FanFlyer! Above, you will see a picture of the quadcopter that he hopes will change the way humans commute. It is small enough to fit into a parking space and can roll right into your garage!

In an attempt to raise the necessary capital to complete the project and get the FanFlyer flying, Jim and his team are crowdfunding $215,000. Their crowdsourcing campaign will kick off LIVE from the show at 10 AM sharp! Jim weighed in about the gap he sees in the market and why he designed the Flyer.

"The personal aviation market has been stagnant for years, but we have a big opportunity to create a new generation of personal aircraft that will give us a totally new experience for recreation and travel. These personal flyers will also have significant uses for police, military, search, rescue, and forest fire fighting. Drone technology will be the key to making these craft safe, fun, and easy to fly!"

In 30 years of working in aviation, Jim has enjoyed solving a lot of problems, sometimes by designing things, sometimes by analyzing and helping to improve systems. He has worked on F-111 and F-16 flight test instrumentation, obtained FAA-PMA approval for Pratt & Whitney radial engine crankshafts, designed PT6 engine air conditioning drives, done stress analysis on engine nacelles and helicopter blades, built a company to produce accurate and repeatable composite parts, designed PT6 engine ram air cowls, built helicopter armor to defeat AK-47 fire for the Department of State Air Wing, and set up a line to manufacture seats for Air Tractor. This project may be Jim's coolest effort to date!
