Sumitomo Precision Products selects Goodrich to supply integrated brake system for Mitsubishi Regional Jet
Monday, 1 February 2010

Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) has been selected by Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. to supply the integrated brake system for the new Mitsubishi Regional Jet (MRJ) aircraft. The system will become a part of Sumitomo's complete landing gear system for the MRJ. Work will be performed by the Goodrich Aircraft Wheels and Brakes business.

The integrated brake system is comprised of the main wheels and carbon brakes, the nose wheel, and the fully digital brake control and antiskid system. The system will use Goodrich's DURACARB(R) carbon brake heat sink material. The successful service history of DURACARB has yielded a 35 percent greater brake life than competing carbon braking materials, resulting in significant cost saving for operators.

"The selection of Goodrich for the MRJ's integrated braking system expands the presence of our state-of-the-art technology on this next-generation regional jet platform," said Brian Brandewie, president, Aircraft Wheels and Brakes for Goodrich. "Our advanced lightweight carbon brake technology will contribute to the outstanding operational efficiency expected from the MRJ. We look forward to sharing in the success of this new and exciting aircraft, and to the continued development of our relationship with Sumitomo."

Mitsubishi's MRJ is 70-90 seat class regional jet being developed to achieve outstanding operational economy and cabin comfort. There are 125 aircraft currently on order for launch customers All Nippon Airways and Trans States Holdings. First flight is expected in 2012 with first deliveries commencing in 2014. Sumitomo Precision Products Co., Ltd. was selected by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation to develop and integrate a complete landing gear system for the MRJ.

Other Goodrich content on the MRJ includes the nacelle and thrust reverser system for the Pratt & Whitney PurePower(R) PW1000G engines that will power the new aircraft.
