Almadesign wins Crystal Cabin Award 2021 with Eviation
Tuesday, 20 April 2021

One of the big winners of the 14th Crystal Cabin Awards 2021 is Portuguese and is called Almadesign. The company won the Crystal Cabin Award, in the Cabin Concepts category, with Israeli company Eviation, for the cabin design of the electric aircraft, Alice. As finalists in the same category, Boeing and Virgin Atlantic - with the 777X Sky Architecture and Virgin Atlantic Upper Class Loft projects – were runners up.

Alice, is the first 9-passenger plane, 100% electric and with zero emissions, designed and developed by Eviation Aircraft in partnership with Almadesign. It is built mostly from composite materials, with a range of about 1,000 km at a speed of 440 km / h. Its development marks the history of electric aviation.

The "Cabin Concept Category" is the category of awards that is dedicated to complete aircraft cabins, being one of the most important categories in the award. In terms of design concept, Alice presents an innovative cabin, with a herringbone-shaped seating arrangement, which places passengers directly in front of the cabin's huge windows. The award was presented by Polly Magraw, Event Director at Reed Exhibitions, organiser of Aircraft Interiors Expo.

Almadesign worked closely with Eviation to design a futuristic cabin, featuring large windows and carefully crafted details. The cabin is a combination of sustainable solutions and modern luxury for the ideal electric flight experience. The seat arrangement with 4 LH seats and 5 RH seats provides each passenger their own private space including a side console, stow pocket and charging points. The passenger experience is enhanced by the comfortable seats and large windows providing plenty of natural light and fantastic views during flight.

The process included the design, development and the assembly of the 1st prototype cabin, presented at the 2019 Le Bourget Air Show in Paris. The process resulted from a collaboration of Portuguese and international engineering and prototyping partners, such as toolmakers, seat manufacturers, leather suppliers and composite manufacturers.

The winners of the 14th Crystal Cabin Awards made it clear that the aviation industry is not standing still, despite the current crisis, presenting a wide portfolio of solutions that demonstrate that aviation innovation continues be at the forefront, despite the challenges facing the industry. For the first time the presentation of the trophies took place digitally and globally, in different time zones. The finalists of the eight categories experienced their victories online and were "brought" to the studio directly through a live broadcast.
