UEC assembled the first prototype gas generator of the PD-8 engine for the SSJ-NEW airliner
Tuesday, 18 May 2021

United Engine Corporation Rostec has completed the assembly of the first experimental gas generator of a new promising PD-8 engine for regional aircraft, in particular, SSJ-NEW. The next stage of work will be bench tests and confirmation of the main parameters. A full-scale sample of the gas generator will be presented at the MAKS-2021 exhibition.

In the course of development work on PD-8, assembly equipment was designed and manufactured, sensors for monitoring the condition of the product during testing were installed, the rotor of the gas generator was assembled and balanced.

"Rostec continues to create a line of domestic engines for Russian passenger aircraft of various classes. In the work on the PD-8 for the short-haul SSJ-NEW, the experience of creating its "big brother" - the PD-14 engine for the MC-21 medium-haul liner - is largely taken into account. At the moment, we have completed the assembly of the first experimental gas generator - the "heart" of the power plant, and we are getting ready to start testing it. In the near future, there will be a crucial moment - the first launch, "said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.

At the first stage of testing, the automatic control system will be debugged, the start-up will be worked out, and the main characteristics of the units will be determined. Tests will experimentally confirm the correctness of the design solutions laid down.

The project of creating a propulsion power plant PD-8 for SSJ-NEW aircraft is being implemented by broad cooperation of the enterprises of the UEC holding of the State Corporation Rostec. The premiere display of the gas generator is planned at the MAKS-2021 air show, which will take place on July 20-25 in Zhukovsky near Moscow.

As previously reported, in the summer of 2020, the UEC created the first samples of composite blades for the PD-35 ultra-high-thrust turbojet engine, which is planned to be installed on promising long-range aircraft, and began their bench tests.
