Hanwha Aerospace signs a contract for supplying aircraft engine parts worth $3.2 billion (equivalent to KRW 36 billion in Korea) with GE in the United States
Tuesday, 25 May 2021

Hanwha Aerospace announced on the 25th that it has recently signed a contract for supplying aircraft engine parts for approximately $320 million (approximately 360 billion won) to GE, a global aircraft engine manufacturer.

Through this contract, Hanwha Aerospace plans to supply a total of 72 engine parts for civil and military use, including GE's flagship engine GEnx, GE90 and LM2500, from 2023 to 2026.

An official from Hanwha Aerospace evaluated this as "the technology and quality that it has accumulated as a manufacturer specialising in aviation engine parts for the past 40 years, as well as the position as a strategic partner of GE, have been recognised."

Meanwhile, Hanwha Aerospace was upgraded in 2015 as an International Joint Development Project (RSP) partner with P&W in the US, and has succeeded in winning large orders from the world's top three engine manufacturers.

In particular, after acquiring the right to supply long-term parts for cutting-edge GTF engines worth about $1.7 billion (worth KRW 1.9 trillion) with P&W in 2019, Rolls-Royce and GE of the UK and $1 billion (approximately 1.2 trillion won) respectively, the company has secured solid food for the future, with an order backlog of about 24 trillion won in the aviation engine business, with successively succeeding in winning orders of US$300 million (about 350 billion won).

In addition, following the recent acquisition of its own mass production approval rights from Rolls-Royce in the UK, the US subsidiary was awarded the 'Gold Grade' given to the best partner from the US P&W Company, and is a global 'Top-Tier' in terms of quality and technology competitiveness.

An official from Hanwha Aerospace said, "We are expecting a gradual improvement in global aviation demand, centering on the expansion of the corona vaccine and domestic travel demand in the future."

Hanwha Aerospace is the only gas turbine engine manufacturer in Korea that has accumulated more than 9,000 engines until this year by entering the aircraft engine business starting with the gas turbine engine depot maintenance business in 1979. It is expanding its business to domestic and international space industry through the acquisition of shares of the company.
