PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: JSC United Engine Corporation
The United Engine Corporation Rostec will begin testing the gas generator units of the PD-35 ultra-high-thrust turbojet engine in Autumn 2021.
One of the key differences between the units of the new engine is their increased dimensions; unique equipment for processing large-sized parts is used in their production.
"Work on the PD-35 engine, which will be used on wide-body long-haul aircraft, is approaching a new milestone. The specialists manufactured the first units of the "heart" of the engine - gas generator. In the autumn, it is planned to start the first tests, during which the operability of the nodes and compliance with the technical conditions will be checked," said the Rostec aviation cluster .
PD-35 is an ultra-high-thrust by-pass turbojet engine (35 tons) designed for installation on promising wide-body long-range aircraft. This is one of the largest projects in the Russian aircraft industry; an engine with such characteristics is being built in the USSR and Russia for the first time.
In addition to the UEC and UAC enterprises, a number of leading Russian research centers are involved in the work on the PD-35 project. Advanced technologies and materials are being developed for the power plant. In particular, in 2020, UEC presented a composite fan blade PD-35 and successfully tested a model of a fan blade on the PD-14 engine.
As previously reported, in 2020 Rostec began mass production of the PD-14 engine for the MS-21 liner, the first engine of this class in Russia. It is assumed that the operating costs of the PD-14 will be 15% lower than those of the previous generation CFM-56, V-2500, PS-90A engines.
