Holt Integrated Circuits introduces world's first galvanically isolated ARINC 429 line driver
Thursday, 2 September 2021

Holt Integrated Circuits expanded its line of galvanically isolated avionics products with the introduction of a new ARINC 429 line driver, HI-8598. The HI-8598 is the world's first galvanically isolated ARINC 429 line driver and compliments the existing line receiver, HI-8460.

The HI-8598 is compatible with 3.3V logic and uses a patented capacitive isolation and power regulation to provide 800V galvanic isolation between the analog line driver and the logic interface, ensuring isolation between the ARINC 429 data bus and sensitive digital circuitry. This device is intended for use in safety critical systems, where it is essential to completely isolate any faults on the bus from mission critical electronics, making the HI-8598 a good choice for systems that will ultimately require FAA or EASA DO-254 DAL A certification.

"The HI-8598 exceeds industry standards for galvanic isolation and is ideal for systems that require fault tolerance between the ARINC 429 bus and mission critical electronics," said George Noh, Director of Sales and Marketing at Holt. "This part is the latest edition to a line of galvanically isolated avionics products, which include ARINC 429 line receivers and a quad discrete-to-digital sensor."

The HI-8598 converts logic signals to ARINC 429 levels (such as when using an FPGA or Holt's HI-3220, HI-35933 or HI-35860 ARINC 429 protocol ICs) and also provides 37.5 Ohm or 5 Ohm resistors in series with each ARINC output to allow the use of external resistors for lightning protection. It is available in Industrial -40oC to +85oC, or Extended, -55oC to +125oC temperature ranges with optional burn-in in a compact 18-pin SOIC-WB package.
