PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: L3Harris (was L3 MAS)
L3 MAS announced the delivery of a modified experimental engine pylon to Pratt & Whitney Canada. This unique pylon, previously designed and manufactured by L3 MAS for the PW814 engine, has now been modified to test the PurePower PW800 engine.
The engine and pylon will be installed on Pratt & Whitney’s Boeing 747SP aircraft to flight test the engine.
“We are very proud to again work hand in hand with Pratt & Whitney Canada in support of the development of a new engine,” said Jacques Comtois, Vice President and General Manager of L3 MAS. “L3 MAS and Pratt & Whitney Canada have more than eight years of successful and collaborative history on many development projects, and we look forward to further growing our relationship.”
L3 MAS’ work for this latest Pratt & Whitney project included the design and manufacture of the engine pylon modifications and systems to integrate the test pylon with the Boeing 747SP flying test bed. It is the first time that L3 MAS has used an engine replica (dummy engine) to validate and simulate system installation prior to delivery to Pratt & Whitney Canada.
