Textron Aviation utilises 100-percent renewable wind electricity to power all of its Kansas-based facilities in 2022
Tuesday, 21 March 2023

In recognition of National Renewable Energy Day on March 21, Textron Aviation announced that in 2022 it used 100-percent renewable wind electricity to power all of its Kansas-based facilities. The use of clean, renewable wind energy significantly reduces the company's carbon footprint and supports Textron Inc.'s commitment to a 20-percent reduction in overall company greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment, and it demonstrates our company's continued commitment to a more sustainable future for our employees, communities and customers,” said Brad White, senior vice president of Operations. “The use of wind energy has provided us with an excellent solution to becoming more environmentally friendly by powering our facilities with clean energy.”

The Direct Renewable Participation Service (DRPS) tariff was established by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) in July 2018, enabling large commercial and industrial customers to access wind energy at lower rates. Kansas is one of the top wind energy producing states in the country.

Textron Aviation announced a multi-year agreement with Evergy Inc. in 2020 to provide the company's Kansas-based facilities with energy from the Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center near Manhattan, Kansas. The Soldier Creek Wind Energy Center became operational in 2021 and Textron Aviation was one of more than 50 businesses and organisations to become part of the program.
