Cosmic Aerospace completes first flight of CX-2 demonstrator
Thursday, 20 February 2025

Cosmic Aerospace has successfully completed the maiden flight of its second clean-sheet demonstrator aircraft, CX2, marking a significant milestone in the company’s mission to electrify air travel.

The first flight took place on February 8, 2025, at Christman Airfield in Colorado. CX-2 completed two successful flights, validating key systems and advancing Cosmic’s developmental roadmap.

"This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team and is an important step towards our goal of making electric aviation a reality," said Christopher Chahine, CEO at Cosmic Aerospace.

“This has been an all-out effort to continue our rapid technology development roadmap, de-risking our key technology on our pathway toward full-scale prototypes and Skylark,” says Marshall Gusman, CTO at Cosmic Aerospace.

CX-2 is the first aircraft to fly with Cosmic’s Skylark configuration - featuring 32 embedded electric engines designed for efficiency, redundancy, and quiet operation. Built entirely in-house, the composite airframe showcases Cosmic’s rapid development capabilities, with just four months from initial design to first flight.

CX-2 Key Specifications:

- Wingspan: 4.5 meters (15 feet)

- Engines: 32 embedded electric engines

- Composite airframe designed and manufactured in-house

- Design-to-flight timeline: 4 months

Following this milestone, Cosmic Aerospace will continue expanding the flight envelope in the coming weeks, focusing on longer-duration flights, higher speeds, and increased altitudes.
