PRESS RELEASE
Issued by: Yamaha Motor Co. Ltd. (Aeronautics Operations)
Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd.'s five models in the "Fazer R" industrial unmanned helicopter series received Type 2 Type Certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism on September 12, 2025. These are the first engine-powered models and agricultural products to receive Type Certification.
Type-certified unmanned aircraft allow users to omit all or part of the aircraft certification inspections required for each individual aircraft, significantly simplifying the application process for obtaining "aircraft certification."
Furthermore, obtaining Type Certification and Aircraft Certification allows users to omit some of the confirmation items required when applying for flight permits and approvals, as well as the attachment of documents demonstrating compliance with additional standards, further reducing the burden on users seeking flight permits and approvals.
The type certification system for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) began in December 2022. This type certification system inspects the strength, structure, and performance of UAVs for specific flight purposes to ensure that their design and manufacturing processes comply with safety and uniformity standards set by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Initially, the system focused on electric drones, but a 2024 revision added items to include engine-powered models. Taking this opportunity, after approximately a year of review, Yamaha Motor has now simultaneously obtained type certification for five Fazer R series models, the first engine-powered models to do so.
The five models that have obtained type certification are as follows:
- Fazer R: Base model for industrial unmanned helicopters
- Fazer R AP: Model equipped with autopilot functionality, primarily used for agricultural purposes such as pesticide spraying
- Fazer R G2: Multi-solution model based on the Fazer R. These include a "satellite communication model" capable of long-distance flight and a "large rotor model" specialized for material transportation.
Two other OEM models are also available.
The agricultural environment is constantly diverse and rapidly changing. Since the launch of the R50 industrial unmanned helicopter in 1987, Yamaha Motor has agilely grasped these changes and has been meeting the needs of agricultural workers through product development for nearly 40 years. We will continue to propose solutions that go beyond the needs of the field and evolve together with the field.
