Robinson Helicopter Company has advanced development of its ten-seat R88 by integrating a group of strategic suppliers intended to improve mission readiness and reduce downtime.
The additions build on partnerships previously established with Garmin and Safran Helicopter Engines and introduce aircraft health monitoring technology, real-time datalink capability and a brushless starter-generator designed to reduce maintenance requirements.
GPMS will provide the Health and Usage Monitoring System for the R88, with its Foresight MX HUMS installed as standard. The system analyses operating data to support predictive maintenance while providing operators continuous visibility into aircraft health. It also includes automated rotor track and balance optimisation and over-the-air data uploads after each flight. Level 1 monitoring will be included for five years, providing health status indications for critical systems, while Level 2 monitoring will be provided for the first year after purchase, offering detailed analysis of bearings and gears and calculated Remaining Useful Life for key components.
Outerlink will supply the Iris connected aircraft platform, providing real-time flight monitoring and global communications through a continuous satellite link. The system streams more than 300 flight parameters including GPS position, engine health and HUMS data while also supporting global push-to-talk voice communication between pilots and dispatch. Additional features include high-definition video and audio recording linked to flight data and automated alerts to maintenance teams when mechanical exceedances or emergency conditions occur.
Skurka Aerospace will supply the helicopter’s brushless starter-generator, replacing traditional brushed systems to eliminate wear components and extend time between overhauls.
David Smith, president and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company, says: “With the R88, we are shifting from reactive maintenance to proactive oversight by integrating Outerlink, GPMS, and Skurka technologies as core features. Utilizing easier to maintain components and real-time data streaming, ensures R88 operators have more time in the air and a clearer picture of aircraft health. These advancements reflect Robinson’s focus on ensuring the R88 is the most dependable, reliable and economic helicopter for individual owners and para-public missions.”
