Captive nuts are retained fastening elements permanently assembled into a parent structure — typically sheet metal, composite panel or structural frame — so the nut remains positionally fixed and cannot be dropped during maintenance or assembly; they encompass press-in, rivet-on, weld, and floating-barrel designs manufactured to AN, MS, NAS and NASM standards in materials including A286 stainless steel, titanium alloy and CRES.
