Forging covers the shaping of aerospace structural components — including bulkheads, frames, landing-gear elements and turbine discs — by applying compressive force to metallic billets of titanium alloys, nickel superalloys and high-strength aluminium, using open-die, closed-die or isothermal techniques, with processes such as hot die forging, near-net-shape forging and precision forging employed to achieve refined grain structures and the mechanical integrity required by AS9100 and NADCAP standards.
