Horizontal Situation Indicators (HSIs) are electromechanical or electronic cockpit instruments that integrate magnetic heading, VOR/ILS course deviation, localiser and glideslope guidance, and bearing pointers onto a single compass-rose display, combining data from flux valve compass systems, navigation receivers, and ARINC 429 data buses, with modern units employing LCD or EFIS-compatible flat-panel presentation and servo-driven or digital symbology.
