Magnetos are self-contained permanent-magnet ignition generators that produce high-voltage pulses to fire spark plugs in piston and turboprop engines, operating independently of the aircraft electrical system; they incorporate rotating magnet assemblies, breaker points or solid-state electronic ignition modules, high-tension coils, and distributor mechanisms compliant with FAR Part 33 and relevant FAA TSO requirements.
