Piston diesel engines for aerospace applications use compression-ignition technology, whereby fuel self-ignites upon injection into highly compressed air within the combustion chamber, eliminating the need for an ignition system. These engines are typically certified to operate on Jet-A, Jet-A1, or automotive diesel (EN 590), and incorporate common-rail direct injection (CRDI), FADEC-controlled fuel management, and turbocharged or turbo-normalised induction systems.
