Retainer bolts are threaded fasteners engineered to remain captive within an assembly when disengaged, preventing loss during maintenance or repeated access cycles on airframe structures, engine nacelles, and access panels. They typically incorporate pre-applied thread-locking features, anti-rotation mechanisms, or shouldered shanks, and are manufactured to CRES, titanium, or high-strength aluminium alloy specifications in accordance with AS, NAS, or MIL standards.
