Self-locking fasteners are threaded or non-threaded aerospace hardware engineered to resist loosening under vibration, dynamic loading, and thermal cycling without requiring secondary locking features such as safety wire or cotter pins; they encompass all-metal prevailing-torque designs, nylon-insert (Nylock-type) elements, deformed-thread profiles, and chemically treated or micro-encapsulated patch systems, manufactured to MIL-SPEC, NAS, and AS standards in titanium, Inconel, CRES, and aluminium alloys.
