Slotted nuts are internally threaded fasteners machined with evenly spaced radial slots across the bearing face, designed to accept a cotter pin or safety wire through a corresponding drilled hole in the mating bolt or stud, providing positive mechanical locking in accordance with AN, MS and NAS standards using materials including corrosion-resistant steel, titanium alloy and aluminium.
