Static dischargers are passive devices mounted on aircraft trailing edges — wingtips, control surfaces, and tail assemblies — to dissipate triboelectric charge buildup into the surrounding airstream at controlled, low-current levels, preventing precipitation static (p-static) interference with VHF, HF, and VOR/ILS communications and navigation systems; they typically comprise resistive carbon-fibre or carbon-loaded polymer rods or wicks bonded to conductive metallic bases.
