Turbine engine vanes are static aerofoil components — including nozzle guide vanes (NGVs) and variable stator vanes (VSVs) — that direct and condition gas flow through the high-pressure and low-pressure turbine stages, manufactured from nickel superalloys or ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) using investment casting, directional solidification, or additive manufacturing, with internal cooling passages and thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) applied via electron beam physical vapour deposition (EB-PVD) or atmospheric plasma spray (APS).
