Turboshaft engines are gas turbine powerplants in which a power turbine extracts shaft work from the exhaust gas stream to drive an output shaft — typically connected to a rotor system or industrial drive via an external gearbox — covering components such as axial and centrifugal compressor stages, annular combustors, single- and multi-stage power turbines, and associated FADEC-controlled fuel and control systems.
