Boeing wins contract to deliver sixth-generation NGAD fighter

The U.S. Air Force selected Boeing to design and produce its Next-Generation Air Dominance platform following record investment in defence.

Boeing has been selected by the U.S. Air Force to design, produce and deliver its sixth-generation Next-Generation Air Dominance (NGAD) fighter aircraft. The platform will serve as the central component in the wider NGAD Family of Systems and is intended to deliver significant advances in range, survivability, lethality and adaptability.

At the program launch event President Trump said that the aircraft portion of the platform will be designated the F-47. Though no costs or timelines for NGAD production were released during the press conference, the president said a fleet of F-47s would be "built and in the air" during his current administration.

The contract represents a key milestone for Boeing’s military aircraft portfolio and continues a legacy that includes the F-15, F/A-18 and EA-18G Growler. Details regarding technical specifications and timelines remain classified due to national security and export restrictions.

“This mission demanded the most significant investment in the history of our defence business,” says Steve Parker, interim president and CEO of Boeing Defense, Space & Security. “We are ready to provide the most advanced and innovative NGAD aircraft needed to support the mission.”

The selection reinforces Boeing’s standing as a core supplier of U.S. military airpower and places it at the forefront of sixth-generation fighter development.
