Crane A&E brake system joins Phantom 3500 program

The company’s Standard Systems Architecture BCS has been selected to deliver anti-skid braking for Otto Aerospace’s short-runway business jet.

Otto Aerospace has selected Crane Aerospace & Electronics to supply the Brake Control System for its Phantom 3500 business jet, a key addition to its short-runway program. Crane A&E is working with Otto to provide the system using its modular Standard Systems Architecture BCS platform, which supports anti-skid braking performance across a range of aircraft types.

The Phantom 3500 is designed to operate from smaller airports typically inaccessible to conventional business jets, placing particular emphasis on braking performance. Crane A&E's Standard Systems Architecture BCS is intended to deliver that performance in a compact, weight-efficient package aligned with the programme's efficiency requirements.

Kyle Heironimus, Chief Technology Officer of Otto Aerospace, adds: “The Phantom 3500 is designed to bring passengers closer to their destinations using shorter runways, and that capability depends on a brake control system we can trust without compromise. Crane A&E's proven anti-skid performance and modular architecture made them the right choice, and we are excited to have them on the team as we move toward our next Flight Test Vehicle.”

Crane A&E's brake control heritage dates back to 1947, when its Hydro-Aire brand partnered with Boeing to deliver the industry's first anti-skid braking system. Its brake control systems fly on thousands of aircraft worldwide, with the company citing an aircraft stopping every 1.2 seconds using its equipment.
