SyberJet develops SJ36 light jet to expand range and efficiency

The SJ36 is expected to enter service in 2032 after flight testing of the new SyberVision avionics suite began in 2027.

SyberJet Aircraft has begun development of the SJ36, a single-pilot, nine-seat light jet that expands on the certified SJ30-2. Certification is targeted for 2032.

The SJ36 has a maximum takeoff weight of approximately 18,500 lbs, 7,000 lbs of thrust, an operating ceiling of 49,000 ft, and a 3,000-nautical-mile range. Its cabin, extended by four feet over the SJ30-2, maintains sea-level pressure up to 41,000 ft. The jet also incorporates a 14-kilowatt zero-emission auxiliary power unit.

Connected features include smartphone, tablet, or computer access for cabin pre-conditioning, remote flight planning and diagnostics, and over-the-air updates for avionics, databases, and cabin systems.

SyberJet says the SJ36 will bridge the gap between light and midsize jets, potentially halving charter costs on select nonstop routes. The jet’s range allows trips such as Los Angeles to Hawaii and Washington, D.C. to Los Angeles, which were previously out of reach for light aircraft.

The development centres on SyberVision, SyberJet’s new glass cockpit and electrical system, now in prototype testing. It features six high-definition touchscreens, an advanced flight management system, autothrottle, autopilot, FADEC compatibility, fly-by-wire controls, secure over-the-air updates, zonal architecture, and improved weather systems. Flight testing is expected in 2027.

“As both a fixed-wing and helicopter-rated pilot, I’ve been deeply involved in the design of the SJ36 and its avionics,” says SyberJet CEO Trevor Milton. “Our engineers and company pilots have been instrumental in ensuring our avionics package is more capable and easier to use than any other avionics platform on the market. It has been a long time since a company has introduced an all-new avionics platform designed and built from the ground up.”

Deliveries are planned to begin in 2032 at a projected price of USD $14 million.
