On 10 March 2026 a design patent was issued for the SM-920 Commercial Aircraft by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The patent number assigned to the design patent is US D1,116,977 S.

The design patent was issued to the applicant and inventor, Christopher R. Beskar with Stavatti Aerospace Ltd a designated Assignee. Representative of the SM-920 Commercial Airliner now under development by Stavatti Aerospace Ltd, the patent was filed on 15 November 2022 and has a 15-year term.

The design patent includes embodiments of the SM-920 airliner with two distinct thrust vectoring exhaust nozzle configurations as well as both passenger (SM-920) and dedicated freighter (SM-920F) configurations.

A revolutionary new design, twin-engine, single-aisle, narrowbody commercial airliner, the SM-920 will carry up to 204 passengers at transonic speeds with unmatched economy and low environmental impact. The SM-920 will incorporate many innovative features including the first application of "M" wings to reduce transonic drag as well as prominent engine nacelles to enable improved engine performance and efficiency at high-speed cruise while also reducing aircraft noise footprint during takeoff and climb-out, meeting future noise reduction requirements. Constructed from aluminum foam metal sandwich structures, the SM-920 will set a new standard for comfort, performance, eloquence, and style.

With a maximum level cruise speed of 0.95 Mach and a range of over 4,100 nm, the SM-920 will offer lower operating costs than its primary competitors. The SM-920 will carry 204 passengers in an all-economy configuration with 32-in seat pitch or 180 passengers in a two-class first/economy arrangement. Offering a 160-in wide cabin, the SM-920 will feature four spacious lavatories and both a forward and aft galley. The cabin will benefit from an advanced UV air cleansing and purification system and a 30-in wide center aisle.

This design patent issuance marks a key milestone in the SM-920 program, following the Strategic Cooperation Agreement entered into on 25 May 2025 for the aircraft's development, prototyping, flight testing, FAA certification, production, and sale. The SM-920 will be prototyped and produced at a Stavatti facility in the continental United States as well as at a secondary production facility outside of North America.
