Marcos Aerospace has announced Quencher, an autonomous amphibious aircraft at preliminary design stage, with a carrying capacity of 4,500 litres of water for day-and-night aerial firefighting operations. A patent application has been filed for the project.
Quencher is being developed with capabilities for AI-assisted navigation, mission management and swarm coordination, enabling multiple aircraft to operate as a unified aerial firefighting system under ground-station supervision. The aircraft is intended to support repeated water scooping from the sea and lakes, as well as refilling from suitable ground facilities, and to perform frequent drops over active fire zones, including during night operations.
"Quencher is not just an aircraft; it is being designed as an intelligent aerial firefighting system," said Marcos Caramalengos, aerospace engineer and founder of Marcos Aerospace. "By combining amphibious water scooping, AI-assisted decision-making, day-and-night flight capability and coordinated multi-aircraft operations, Quencher aims to create a new aerial platform for more effective wildfire suppression, without exposing crews to danger and with low acquisition and operating costs."
