Volvo Aero Norge (VAN) has signed a three year agreement with Pratt & Whitney to manufacture another critical component for the F135 engine program. The agreement has an estimated value of 3 million USD.
The agreement is for manufacturing of diffuser cases for the F135 engine, the engine for the F-35 Lightning II (Joint Strike Fighter). The diffuser case diffuses and regulates the airflow in the engine, allowing the combustor to work most efficiently.
VAN is also the exclusive manufacturer of the F135 low pressure turbine shaft and other parts are currently being evaluated. The total potential for VAN for the entire F135 program is significant over the life of the program. The F135 engine program is expected to last until 2040.
Pratt & Whitney is one of the company's major customers. Since the establishment in 1976, the cooperation with Pratt & Whitney has contributed to the company's solid and positive reputation as a reliable manufacturer and partner in the highly competitive aerospace industry.
"We are pleased to sign this contract with Pratt & Whitney for additional work on the F135 engine, and look forward to continuing our support of the F-35 Lightning II program," said Odd Tore Kurverud, president, Volvo Aero Norge.
In addition to supporting Pratt & Whitney military engine programs, VAN is also a key supplier for the company's commercial engine programs.
This contact contributes to a continuous strong relationship with Pratt & Whitney, including great potentials for a long lasting and increased involvement in the F35 Lightning II program.
