First flight of Skycar
Thursday, 17 January 2008

The twin-engine innovative aircraft certified OMA SUD of Capua, is called Skycar, has effected with success its first flight on the airport "O. Salomone" of Capua. The aircraft, piloted by the past NASA astronaut and EFA Chief test-pilot, Maurizio Cheli,has effected numerous tests for the verification and validation of the aircraft flight qualities around the longitudinal, lateral and directional control axis.

The engine run-up has taken place at 14:00 pm with with take-off at 14:15 pm and landing at 15:00 pm.

The flight has been led in the test area R63, included between Capua airport and Grazzanise, military airport, until a flight altitude of 3500 feet;

The aircraft has simulated two approachs on the airfield in power conditions, flap landing and extended landing gear, and during the flight have been performed climb and steady flight in several speeds and height for a verification of aircraft performances and an operation of the engine parameters. The take-off has been performed at 60 kts and it is landed with a speed of touch down di 70 kts covering a very short distance, lower then 500 feet showing high performances thanks to its particular configuration with lifting fuselage.

The complete flight has been followed from "Flight Test Control Room" of OMA SUD through the data acquisition system installed on board.

The following flight data analysis confirmed the excellent design solutions adopted and the perfect configuration of innovative system used on aircraft, among them an avionic system "Full Glass Cockpit", electric systems, powerplant and landing gear systems completely designed and producted by OMA SUD.

OMA SUD has programmed new flight tests within January month.
