Goodrich Corporation (NYSE: GR) has been selected by Cessna Aircraft Company to supply SmartProbe(TM) air data systems and windshield heat controllers for the Cessna Citation Columbus large-cabin intercontinental business jet. The selection marks the first application of Goodrich's SmartProbe air data and windshield heat controller technology for a Cessna aircraft. Work will be performed by Goodrich's Sensors and Integrated Systems team in Burnsville, Minn.
The SmartProbe system provides all critical air data parameters to the aircraft's flight control, pilot display and other systems. SmartProbe air data sensing technology integrates multi-function sensing probes, pressure sensors and full air data measurement processing, allowing the elimination of pneumatic lines. This integration reduces the total number of individual system components, decreases overall weight and significantly improves system reliability, maintainability and performance.
The windshield heat controller regulates and distributes only the level of power required by the windshield to ensure it remains free of condensation and ice. The flexible design provides redundant digital buses or discrete analog interfaces making it adaptable to different aircraft avionic architecture configurations.

The versatility and adaptability of Goodrich's SmartProbe system has made it the preferred air data system solution for new and update programs across all market segments. The systems are currently in use on the Dassault Falcon 7X, the Embraer 170, 190 and Phenom 300, the Airbus A350, A380 and A400M, the Lockheed Martin F-22 and F-35, the Boeing/Air Force C-130 AMP, the Boeing X-45, the Northrop Grumman X-47B and the Sikorsky X2.
Goodrich content on the Cessna Citation Columbus also includes the integrated landing gear system with lightweight carbon brakes. Cessna currently has more than 70 orders for the Citation Columbus. The aircraft is expected to gain full certification in 2013 and enter service in 2014.
