Archangel Systems ADAHRS selected for Bell Helicopter's V-280 Valor
Thursday, 23 February 2017

Archangel Systems announces that its AHR150A ADAHRS has been selected for the Bell Helicopter V-280 Valor tiltrotor program.

The V-280 Valor is Bell Helicopter's submission to the U.S. Army's Joint MultiRole Technology Demonstrator (JMR-TD) program. JMR-TD is the precursor to the Future Vertical Lift (FVL) initiative created to develop replacements for the UH-60 Black Hawk and AH-64 Apache.

Michael Greene, Archangel CEO, says, "Bell Helicopter is designing the V-280 Valor to accommodate escalating long-term capabilities and missions. That puts a premium on the avionics selection process. So we're thrilled to supply the AHR150A to the project. The 150A provides critical information to both the cockpit displays and the fly-by-wire flight control systems. That is a powerful testament to the caliber of our catalog."

Specifications for the V-280 Valor are impressive. With two fuel-efficient turboshaft engines, the V-280 Valor has a useful load of 20,000 pounds, a cruise speed of 280 kts, and a 2,100 nm range. Every possible weight reduction opportunity must be adopted to reach that performance level while meeting mission requirements.

"Archangel's design philosophy has always focused on high performance at reduced size, weight, and power budgets, but with DAL A software certification," says Bill Dillard, Director of Sales and Marketing at Archangel. "We see this approach as the future of avionics hardware. Selection onto the V-280 Valor validates that vision."
