Pratt & Whitney receives ETOPS certification for PurePower Engine for Airbus A320neo
Monday, 19 June 2017

Pratt & Whitney's PurePower PW1100G-JM engine has been granted 180 minute Extended Range Operations (ETOPS) eligibility by the European Aviation Safety Agency. The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration had approved ETOPs for the engine in December 2016. The ETOPS certification sets the maximum allowed amount of single-engine flying time that an aircraft can be from the nearest suitable airport. The PW1100G-JM engine powers the A320neo. Pratt & Whitney is a division of United Technologies Corp.

"This is a significant milestone for both the Pratt & Whitney team and the PurePower engine family. This 180 minute ETOPs classification is the maximum required in its class," said Chris Calio, president, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines.

The Pratt & Whitney PurePower family has more than 80 customers from over 30 countries. In-service performance of the PurePower engine has demonstrated its ability to reduce fuel burn by 16 percent, regulated emissions by 50 percent and the noise foot print by 75 percent.
