PJSC UEC Saturn (part of United Engine Corporation of the State Corporation Rostec) from Rybinsk has become a management organization of Omsk Engine Design Bureau. Thus, the holding company has combined development and production of Russian small-sized gas turbine engines for unmanned aerial vehicles.

Small-sized gas-turbine engines, which are developed and produced in Rybinsk and Omsk, are designed to be installed in unmanned aerial vehicles, including air-launched and sea-launched cruise missiles. The main requirements for such engines are minimal dimensions and weight, high cost efficiency and reliability.

UEC on the premises of UEC – Saturn has previously successfully implemented the program of import substitution of small-sized engines: several domestic engine modifications for UAV were developed and put into serial production.

Over the past few years, the production levels of small-sized engines have been significantly increased.

"The processes of combining UEC – Saturn and OEDB were initiated in order to consolidate efforts on development and serial production of engines for UAC," says Managing Director of JSC Omsk Engine Design Bureau, PJSC UEC – Saturn Deputy Managing Director of programs on military gas-turbine engines and special vehicles Ivan Markov. "From now on, the program on OEDB small-sized engines will be developed under the management of UEC – Saturn. The next stage will be combining UEC – Saturn and OEDB which is scheduled to take place in 2018. I am sure that the combining efforts of motor manufacturers from Omsk and Rybinsk on the basis of accumulated scientific and technical potential of our enterprises will help to improve the characteristics of serialized components and create new engines for a variety of UAV in the interests of Russian and foreign customers."

One of the areas for further development defined for OEDB founded in 1956 is to create in Omsk a modern testing complex for small-sized gas-turbine engines.

A small-sized engine 36MT, a part of UEC product range, was designed by UEC – Saturn on the basis of an engine developed by OEDB. Basic indicators of the 36MT engine are on par with foreign analogues, and its specific frontal thrust is superior to the competitors'. 36MT has the following benefits as well: high fuel efficiency; reliable minimal starting time; built-in electrical generator to supply electrical power for an air vehicle; modern control system; overload resistance, resistance to shock waves and heat waves, suited for long periods of storage.

36MT engine is displayed at the UEC stand at International Aviation and Space Salon MAKS-2017 held at Zhukovsky.
