Honeywell developing new avionics capabilities for current production and classic Dassault aircraft models
Tuesday, 12 May 2009

Honeywell (NYSE: HON) has successfully completed the first phase of flight testing for its expanded avionics capabilities for Dassault's Primus Epic EASy equipped cockpits and retrofits for earlier model Dassault aircraft that will include Integrated Primary Flight Display (IPFD) with synthetic vision, Future Air Navigation System (FANS), Wide Area Augmentation System-Localizer Performance with Vertical guidance (WAAS-LPV) Approach and Required Navigation Performance – Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required (RNP-SAAAR) Capability.

Honeywell is now delivering full development load software of its new avionics capabilities to Dassault for their evaluation.

"These improved functionalities will allow all Primus Epic equipped Falcon operators to extend the capabilities of their aircraft in today's operating environment while yielding NextGen compatibility that readies these operators for future airspace operation," said Rob Wilson, President, Honeywell Business Aviation. "We believe that by offering these capabilities for new Dassault EASy Phase 2 cockpits, coupled with retrofits, operators will be ready to go to the front of the line in the emerging best-equipped, first-served Air Traffic Management structure that is emerging in the U.S. and Europe."

Pilots of the new Dassault EASy Phase 2 flight deck configuration will benefit from Honeywell's award winning IPFD Synthetic Vision System, which utilizes a terrain database with over 600 million flight hours of flight validation. It will also include WAAS GPS that l enables these aircraft to fly the over 1,300 LPV approaches in the U.S. RNP that will enable the aircraft to fly RNP Basic, Advanced and SAAAR approaches, departures and arrivals worldwide, FANS 1/A Controller Pilot Data Link Communications (CPDLC), Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS), XM Graphical Weather, Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B Out) and Paperless Charts. Automatic descent mode will assist the crew when coping with emergencies, including explosive decompression. Honeywell's Go Direct Services will offer Dassault EASy operators a complete suite of services to help operators gain operational approval for RNP SAAAR and perform RNP SAAAR database validation thereby offering operators a turn-key solution for the implementation of RNP SAAAR.

"The Primus Epic equipped Dassault EASy flight deck that defined integrated avionics at the turn of the century, continues to provide unsurpassed capability in integrating new features via software updates and processor updates, and gives EASy operators the capacity to continually modernize their flight deck without having to go through a cockpit overhaul," Wilson said.

The EASy Phase 2 features and system improvements will be released on all three Falcon platforms, the F900 Series (4Q 2009 for all functions except FANS1A, which will be introduced in 2010); F7X; and, F2000 Series.

"With RNP, FANS 1/A, WAAS-LPV and ADS-B capability, Falcon operators will have a suite of products that will give them the best access and help them fly the safest and most efficient route to their destination, and when coupled with Honeywell's RAAS and IPFD Synthetic Vision they will have an enhanced cushion of situational awareness," said Victor Valente, Vice President, Dassault Programs.

"For operators of Classic Dassault Falcon 900EX Primus 2000 avionics equipped aircraft, our DU-875 upgrade will ensure those operators will have more functionality today than other peer aircraft in the industry will have in the next few years," Valente said, adding, "They will also enjoy the benefits of synthetic vision, next generation airspace features like RNP, FANS 1/A, LPV, XM weather and paperless charts."

The Dassault IPFD, based on Honeywell's IPFD technology, is designed to seamlessly integrate into the EASy cockpit featuring Primus Epic architecture and builds on Honeywell's commitment to bring new and innovative functionality to the world's most advanced flight decks. Synthetic Vision provides pilots a '3-dimensional, real-time, out the window' representation of terrain and obstacles on the aircrafts primary displays.

Honeywell's IPFD fuses terrain data with advanced symbology, including features like Flight Path Marker which are typically found on a HUD, giving the flight crew improved situational awareness. The terrain is generated from Honeywell's Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) terrain database using high-performance graphics generation system.
