The MC-21-300 aircraft will be tested in Yakutia in conditions of low negative outdoor temperatures
Sunday, 23 January 2022

The prototype MC-21-300 aircraft manufactured by the Irkut Corporation (part of the UAC of the Rostec State Corporation) performed a flight along the route Zhukovsky (Moscow Region) - Yakutsk for testing in conditions of low negative outdoor temperatures.

To organise and conduct them, a group of specialists from the Irkut Corporation and the OKB im. A.S. Yakovlev, headed by the General Director of Irkut Corporation, Deputy General Director of UAC for Civil Aviation Andrey Boginsky. At the airport, the plane was met by the Minister of Transport and Road Facilities of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Vladimir Sivtsev, General Director of Yakutia Airlines JSC Andrey Vinokurov, First Deputy General Director of Yakutsk Airport JSC Konstantin Sergeev, Head of the Sakha (Yakutsk) MTU of the Federal Air Transport Agency Oleg Voroshilov .

"Today's flight is the first in terms of a combination of two factors - the remoteness of the destination from the city of Zhukovsky and the confirmation of the aircraft's systems operability, which provide a comfortable long flight for a large number of passengers. The number of transported specialists exceeded 70 people. They will conduct tests to expand the possibility of operating the aircraft at an outside air temperature below minus 30 ° C. This is a continuation of the hard work that ended last year with the receipt of a type a certificate for the MS-21-300 aircraft. We have to conduct a series of tests to expand the certificate and by the end of this year to hand over the first production aircraft to Rossiya airlines," said Andrey Boginsky, General Director of Irkut Corporation PJSC.

Managing Director of JSC OKB im. A.S. Yakovlev" Daniil Brenerman said that the flight of MS-21-300 from Zhukovsky to Yakutsk passed without remarks. "Ground and flight tests in Yakutia will take place approximately within three weeks, depending on the air temperature in the region. Cooling down of the aircraft precedes each stage of the tests - in the evening and at night it will be in an open parking lot for 12 hours. Organisational and technical support for testing is provided to us by Yakutsk Airport and Yakutia Airlines," he added.

The plane is being piloted by test pilots of the 1st class of the OKB im. A.S. Yakovleva Oleg Mutovin and Andrey Voropaev.

Testing of the MC-21-300 aircraft will be carried out as part of the expansion of the type certificate, which currently allows the operation of the aircraft at an outdoor air temperature near the ground of minus 30 °C. Previously, aircraft systems were successfully tested on test benches in temperatures down to minus 55 °C.

Also in Yakutsk, working meetings of the delegation of PJSC Irkut Corporation with the heads of the administration of the republic, the Ministry of Transport of the republic, and Yakutia Airlines will be held on the issues of operating the Corporation's civil aircraft in the region.

Minister of Transport and Road Facilities of the Republic Vladimir Sivtsev noted: "The Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is a huge region in which aviation is the main mode of transport, providing year-round communication between settlements. We are interested in cooperation with the Irkut Corporation in order to ensure the operation of domestically produced aircraft, including as part of a single Far Eastern airline. The natural and climatic conditions of the republic allow testing aviation equipment at low temperatures. At Yakutsk Airport, Superjet 100, Il-96, Be-200 aircraft, as well as Airbus and Boeing aircraft, have already been tested.
