We wanted power, comfort, and lower fuel consumption. That’s why we integrated the Rotax 916 iS engine together with the four-blade DUC Tiger and Helix H50 propellers. In the world of ultralight aviation, innovation is everything – free from lengthy bureaucracy, we can quickly test what truly matters to pilots: more joy, more freedom, more flying.
And yes – we did it.
We have successfully completed the integration and certification of the new Rotax 916 iS, and all documentation for the type certificate extension has already been submitted to our LAA authority in the Czech Republic. This means we can now offer certified Ellipse aircraft powered by the remarkable 160-hp Rotax 916 iS.
It was not only about installing a stronger engine but also about developing aerodynamically efficient cowling with cooling channels. True to our philosophy, we kept it simple and elegant – because what is beautiful and simple often works best.
The Rotax 916 iS now crowns our Rotax engine range as the pinnacle of today’s technology. It’s more than extra horsepower – it’s a complete upgrade in flight performance, tested and proven in the air.
Fast take-off
One of the highlights of the Rotax 916 iS is its maximum output of 160 hp. Even after our experience with the 915 iS, we were amazed at how quickly the Ellipse leaps off the runway – just after a few meters! With a climb rate of 9 m/s, it almost feels like a rocket. For practical comfort, climbing at 150 km/h with reduced power delivers a smooth 6 m/s.
Cruise performance
Measured horizontal speed (Vh) at 2000 ft, QNH 1019, 16°C: an impressive 263 km/h IAS. Higher up, this translates to nearly 300 km/h TAS – shortening your flights, expanding your reach, and enhancing your freedom.
Surprisingly efficient
Pilots always ask about fuel consumption. The Rotax 916 iS delivers here, too. In eco cruise at around 4600 rpm and 215 km/h TAS, consumption is only 15–16 L/h! Exceptional efficiency for such power, saving costs and extending range.
The flying experience
Smooth, refined operation, fewer vibrations, and perfect harmony with the four-blade DUC or three-blade Helix H50 propeller. The Rotax 916 iS in the Ellipse isn’t just a new engine – it’s an invitation to higher performance, greater range, and unrivaled comfort.
