IAI tasks KAI with G280 fuselage manufacture
Thursday, 17 December 2020
The G280 fuselage structures will be delivered just before the interior work of the aircraft. It is the first time that KAI has won an order for a complete fuselage structure including a seat rail.

Korea Aerospace Industries has received a new order for the G280 fuselage from Israel Aerospace Industries, with the first to be elivered by 2030.

The G280 is a 10-seater high-end mid-sized business jet, with 200 units already delivered. This is the first time that KAI has won an order for a complete fuselage structure including a seat rail.

KAI signed an exclusive production contract with IAI in 2019 for the entire main wing of the G280 aircraft. In April 2020, the main wing unit 1 was successfully developed and mass production is now in progress.

KAI plans to secure technology and infrastructure for future civil aviation development by simultaneously producing the main wing and fuselage, which are the core structures of the G280 aircraft.

The volume of the G280 fuselage will be carried out with small and medium-sized business partners in the Sacheon region, and is expected to be of great help to small and medium-sized companies that are having difficulty securing the volume due to Corona 19.

The G280 project is regarded as a representative example of shared growth policies such as KAI's sales power, technology transfer to partner companies, and productivity improvement of partner companies.

When the Goseong plant, which will be in charge of the G280 production, is completed, the production facility is moved and the partner company is supervised by KAI's production management to begin full-scale independent production.

KAI is taking the lead in establishing partnerships with partner companies to develop the domestic aerospace industry and create a healthy ecosystem for large and small companies.

By contributing to the 'Win-Win Cooperation Fund' worth KRW 10 billion, KAI says it is helping partner companies to develop new technologies and cost-saving processes to be reborn as a company with advanced technology. In February, KAI was selected as a voluntary win-win cooperation company that shares its infrastructure, win-win programs, and know-how with small and medium-sized partners.
