Demag has designed and built a process crane with a record span of 106 metres. Travelling on a path of 82 metres it will cover the entire length of the factory bay and support construction on the assembly line of the Airbus A321XLR jet in Hanmburg-Fikenwerder.
Dr Thomas Bonker, Senior Vice President Process Cranes says: "Demag cranes are a permanent feature of the Airbus production network. We are delighted to build a process crane with a record-breaking span for our customer."
The double girder suspension crane will travel on six crane runways, which will be installed parallel to each other at distances of 24 and 10 metres under the factory roof. Its trolley has a slewing mechanism with four Demag hoist units installed in a rectangular arrangement. They can be adjusted enabling the crane to handle the various fuselage panels and sections of the A321XLR.
Each of the four hoists has a load capacity of 6.25 tons, providing a total load capacity of 25 tons. The hoist units can be operated as single units or in a synchronised mode depending on the selected combination. The long and cross travel drives and the slewing drive in addition to the lifting and lowering motions all feature variable speeds. The semi-automated target positioning function ensures safe and reliable handling.
