XTI Aerospace has selected Triumph Geared Solutions, Formsprag Clutch and Kamatics Corporation to support the design, development and manufacture of the TriFan 600 drivetrain. The selection marks the achievement of a key engineering milestone for the xVTOL programme in Q2 2025.
Triumph will handle the primary and secondary gearboxes, Formsprag Clutch will provide clutch systems and Kamatics will produce the precision shafts linking the twin turboshaft engines to the ducted fans.
A two-day summit brought together engineers, executives and specialists from all four companies to align on fault tolerance, thermal management, lightweight materials, and drivetrain validation.
XTI’s CEO Scott Pomeroy says: “Partnering with these suppliers is more than a technical collaboration; it’s about shaping the future of flight.”
Triumph’s Pete Gibson says the deal reflects “Triumph’s ongoing commitment to advancing future-forward aviation technologies”.
Laurent Crosnier of Regal Rexnord says Formsprag Clutch is “excited to be an integral part” of the programme.
Kamatics’ Kevin Ladouceur says his company’s customised driveshafts are “well-suited to meet the demanding performance and durability requirements” of the aircraft.
The TriFan 600 aims to offer the range and speed of a business aircraft with the vertical performance of a helicopter.
